Inter, Sensi at the crossroads: all the hypotheses for the future

The man from the Marche ended up on the sidelines after his debut in the league as a starter: only 75 minutes of play in the last two months. Possible loan transfer in January

New Year New Life. At least that’s what Stefano Sensi hopes for, who paws to return to feel like a protagonist after a first part of the season as a supporting actor. The man from the Marches is one of the few discontented faces in Inter who sails under full sail and collects unanimous support. The former Sassuolo had started on the right foot by taking a starting shirt on the first day of the championship against Genoa, then the collateral ligament injury that kept him in the pits for a month and the use in bits and pieces . Despite his return at the end of October, the attacking midfielder has slipped to the bottom of Inzaghi’s hierarchy, who in the meantime has found the perfect match between owners and spare parts. But the 26-year-old from Urbino is hungry and also aims to win back the national team. This is why the winter market can open up new scenarios.

Is there still a future for Sensi in the Nerazzurri? Both Inter (with an outlay of around 25 million) and the boy, who landed in Milan full of expectations and ambitions after his happy experience at Sassuolo in the summer of 2019, hope for it. But the news of the last two months paints a different reality. Because if the first two seasons at the foot of the Madonnina turned out to be a mined path due to repeated injuries, lately the Marchesan is forced to act as a spectator exclusively for technical choice. From 18 October, the date of his return after the last injury, Inzaghi has always called him up, even if he only conceded 75 minutes divided into eight sections of the match. The causes are many, starting from the renunciation of the pure attacking midfielder up to the explosion of Calhanoglu in the role of mezzala. With the adoption of the two points and the definition of precise hierarchies also in attack, the space for Sensi was thus reduced to a flicker, also because in the median Vidal took the role of first reinforcement. Result? Of all the midfielders available to Inzaghi, the man from the Marche has collected the fewest minutes.

Considering the whole squad, only Satriano and Kolarov played less than Sensi, respectively at 33 ‘and 44’ compared to his 169 ‘. Definitely too little, to the point of pushing Inter to evaluate alternative solutions in order not to devalue the investment made. The contract of the Marchesan expires in June 2024 and, at least for the moment, a definitive sale is not expected at the Nerazzurri. If anything, the best solution could be the loan, in order to guarantee Sensi constant employment that also makes them re-evaluate the card. Possible destinations by return of post? In the summer Fiorentina showed a shy interest, which however has never returned to make itself heard. Genoa and Spezia would gladly welcome him in January in the hope of getting back on top after a disappointing first round, but Sensi is probably aiming for more competitive realities. Among these, two hypotheses above all: Empoli, which is already enhancing that Pinamonti loaned out precisely to find space, but also a suggestive return to Sassuolo, with which Inter has sketched speeches regarding Scamacca and Raspadori. Sensi could prove to be an excellent weapon to get to one of the two attackers who have long since been in the sights of Marotta and Ausilio, to the delight of all parties involved.
