Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home | Benedict Cumberbatch says it’s going to be controversial

Before the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Road Home came out, all we knew about her was a series of speculations, each one more unhinged than the last. All of them focused on the possibility of a Spider-Verse made up of all the Peter Parker that we have seen in live-action cinema. We still do not pass if they are going to leave, but their villains are already confirmed thanks to that advance.

In that trailer there was also something that caught the attention of several Marvel fans. We are referring, of course, to the attitude of Doctor Strange. All kinds of theories have come up about this. The main ones suggest that perhaps it is Mephisto impersonating the character, which would make sense because of the similarities between this film and Spider-Man: One More Day. In that series, that demon saves Aunt May’s life in exchange for Mary Jane and Peter’s marriage. In this tape everything seems to indicate that something similar is happening. The reality is that we do not know if that will happen and if there is really something strange with Strange.

Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch was interviewed by Variety Awards Circut Podcast. Of course, he did not give any spoilers; that is, he did not say if his character has something weird or not. What he did mention is that the movie has a brilliant concept and that it is going to be controversial. Of course, he said he has not seen it yet:

Yes, Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to be very, very fun. There are going to be a lot of debates about her. I’m sure, but it’s a brilliant and risky concept. He has great ambition. I have not seen it, but I have to say that everything seems to indicate that it has succeeded. And I mean, even on paper, her audacity makes you think ‘How the hell is this going to work? I’m also excited about the overall opportunity for them to explore those ideas. So yeah, I’m really interested in seeing how it turns out. But I am sure it will be a success.

The reality is that a film by such a well-known hero raises expectations, so no matter what, it will generate debate. That said, in this particular case it has to be taken into account that because of all the rumors, it is very likely that some fans will leave the room disappointed when they are not fulfilled. It’s the kind of movie that just from what we saw in the trailer we all know is going to generate controversy.

After these words, the interviewer told him that Tom Holland had told him last year that it was the most ambitious superhero movie ever made and he wanted to know if the English actor agrees with that statement. The actor said yes … until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released.

Until Doctor Strange 2… is going to take her down, Tom, but yeah for now, he is.

On the other hand, the actor in an interview with The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show (via Screen Rant) had already said that the movie is going to be crazy as the title says. Here his words:

I’m going to say that Sam Raimi is a master of this genre and even his presence, his friendship, his direction, all of that… he was just really brilliant and amazing… there’s a wonderful cast of returning actors… and that’s all. I can tell why it could get me in trouble. It is something very insane. I’m going to say that the clue is in the title itself. It is the Multiverse of madness … It is something very eccentric.
