The Duchess of Sussex has published a video on the occasion of her 40th birthday starring actress Melissa McCarthy.
The video, uploaded to Archewell’s website, shows the couple talking on a video call from their respective homes about how to do something special to mark the occasion.
Meghan explains how, for her birthday, she is asking 40 women to donate 40 minutes of their time to help guide a woman returning to work after the pandemic.
The project, titled 40×40, involves 40 activists, athletes, artists and world leaders who Meghan has asked to participate by contributing 40 minutes of their time.
Among those who have volunteered to participate are singer Adele, poet Amanda Gorman, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and fashion designer Stella McCartney.
The video also sees Meghan and McCarthy making fun of each other, with the actress initially responding to a suggestion from Meghan asking if this is “another photo shoot under a tree where you look very calm” on reference to the photograph the Sussexes posted to announce that they were expecting a second child.
Meghan replied that “I am peaceful under a tree every day.” McCarthy’s next suggestion is that the two of them get matching face tattoos. Next, ask if Meghan is planning a “Suits” reunion.
Meghan doesn’t completely dismiss the idea of a reunion, insisting that she “loves Suits,” but she’s not sure why she would have a reunion for her birthday.
At the end of the video, some bloopers show McCarthy and Meghan taunting each other, while one shot shows the Duke of Sussex juggling in the background while Meghan talks.
In a written statement accompanying the video, Meghan explains the 40×40 initiative in more detail.
“As I reflect on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, it amazes me that TIME IS ONE OF OUR GREATEST AND ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with loved ones, time to do the things we love, time to time to learn, laugh, grow and the sacred time we have on this earth ”, he began by saying.
“Among the most valuable gifts of time is also the time spent in the service of others, knowing that you can contribute to an incredible change.”
Meghan went on to point out that the pandemic had deprived millions of women of their jobs, citing research that revealed that women were less likely to return to work after the pandemic.
“I believe mentoring is a way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their financial strength, and for my birthday I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to help launch a global effort. contributing 40 minutes of tutoring to support women returning to work, ”she said.
“With this time, I hope that each of them will help someone move forward in their professional life on their own terms and I hope they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.”
At the end of the statement, Meghan calls on readers to also dedicate 40 minutes to some kind of “act of service”, either through mentoring or giving back to another cause or person.
