It’s always entertaining when celebrities share stories of the strange jobs they had before becoming famous. Jennifer Aniston is no exception, although the best part of her stories isn’t the jobs; it’s how bad she was at them. Aniston is a Hollywood success story with almost three decades of acting under her belt. It’s a good thing, because it sounds like when she waited tables she was a menace.
Jennifer Aniston: Getting into acting
Aniston has had a long and busy acting career. Multiple generations of fans got to know her as Rachel on Friends, but she didn’t stop there. Yet if she’d taken some loving advice early on, she could have missed out on the world of acting altogether.
According to The Things, both of Aniston’s parents were actors, and they didn’t want her to follow in their footsteps. Her father wanted to protect her from the rejection that came with the job, so he urged her to become a lawyer instead.
We’ll never know how well Aniston may have done as a lawyer because her parents’ advice only made her more determined to follow her dream. And if her early jobs are any indication of how she’d do outside Hollywood, it’s a good thing she did.
Jennifer Aniston started working various jobs when she was a teen, but she didn’t seem to be very good at them. When she was a bike messenger, for instance, she collided with an open car door.
But as she told Marie Claire, it was when she was a waitress that she made her most disastrous moves.
“I waited a lot of tables, and I wasn’t very good at that,” Aniston said. “I dropped more than one Alpine burger in customers’ laps, and you just do not want all of that Swiss cheese and mushrooms in your pants.”
She probably would have put more careful effort into law school if she had chosen that route, but despite her parents’ urging, being a lawyer wasn’t her second career choice either. If she had to pick something else, Aniston thinks she would have opted for being an interior designer.
But she never needed a fallback career.
Aniston’s happy ambition
She first became mega-famous 27 years ago on Friends. But Aniston hasn’t been content to ride that success for the rest of her career. She’s continued to strive, and she’s built a reputation, both as a talented actor and a style icon. She recently appeared on the cover of InStyle, and she shared some thoughts on her career.
She is still involved in projects that are important to her. The second season of The Morning Show is about to air on Apple TV Plus, and she has nothing but good to say about the series and her co-star Reese Witherspoon. She’s also about to start filming Murder Mystery 2 with Adam Sandler.
It’s fair to say that Aniston is an ambitious person, but her definition of what that means might be a little different than you’d think.
“Honestly, I have not ever been an ambitious person,” she said. “[Ambition] just means happiness. I’m ambitious to be a happy, content, fulfilled human being, without regrets about things I knew I could have done and didn’t do.”
It’s good to hear that Aniston has no regrets about her past, even if some of her customers from her restaurant days can’t agree. At least she’s found a career that’s fulfilling – and safer for those around her.
