Declining vaccination numbers: So far, no large amounts of vaccine expired
The number of daily vaccinations in Germany has been falling since mid-June. However, in the north no large amounts of vaccine have to be disposed of because they have expired. This was declared by the responsible authorities in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg. So far, vaccination doses have “not expired in any significant amount”, said Health Secretary Matthias Badenhop from Schleswig-Holstein. However, according to the Hamburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, a solution for the AstraZeneca vaccine would have to be found. “This vaccine is no longer in demand,” said chairman Walter Plassmann with a view to the approaching expiry dates. Despite falling vaccination numbers, the countries have not yet seen any vaccination fatigue. The Hamburg vaccination center is still at full capacity, according to the social authority. After the holidays, the general practitioners are also counting on “realistic figures”, says Plassmann. People are currently just on vacation. Although the holidays in Lower Saxony are just beginning, the number of vaccinations in practices has been falling for two weeks, according to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Health in Hanover does not yet want to confirm vaccination fatigue. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania alone complains that demand has fallen and that the agreed appointments are not kept.
On Tuesday 572,482 cans were injected nationwide; at the beginning of June, a maximum of 1.5 million syringes was registered. In Hamburg, for example, according to the Robert Koch Institute, almost 14,000 vaccinations were administered on Tuesday, and the day before the summer holidays there were almost twice as many.
249 new infections in Lower Saxony – the incidence is 13.9
In Lower Saxony, the number of new infections has risen by 249 to a total of 263,136 within 24 hours. Yesterday there were 232 new infections, a week ago 155. 1,890 new corona infections, the incidence continues to rise

The Stormarn district continues to have the highest seven-day incidence with 18.4. Behind them are Lübeck (17.5) and then Neumünster (16.2). The district of Plön again has the lowest incidence with 2.3.
Six weeks of vacation – and then hope for more relaxed learning
On the last day of school before the holidays, there was a small breakfast picnic at the Leonore Goldschmidt School in Hanover followed by a football match for class 9b. But in spite of all the joy, the focus is already on the new school year. The question is also: How big are the knowledge gaps?
